Vacuum Innovations (VI) is an equipment manufacturer for the precision optical coating industry located in Dansville, NY. We design and manufacture thin film deposition systems and equipment, as well as coated optics produced using our systems. Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing precise mechanical designs, creating detailed CAD documentation, and supporting system integration for innovative projects. Your expertise will help bring complex mechanical concepts to life through advanced modeling, drafting, and analysis, ensuring that all designs meet industry standards and client specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge product development and infrastructure projects in a collaborative environment that values creativity and technical excellence.
Responsibilities
· Translate engineering concepts into actionable, manufacturing-ready technical drawings and 3D models.
· Focus on practical details of the product development (material selection, dimensioning, tolerance analysis).
· Designing parts with fabrication constraints in mind.
· Documentation – generating bills of materials, writing operational manuals, maintaining version control throughout engineering change orders.
· Analyzing and testing existing projects to identify areas for improvement.
· Collaborating with other Engineers, Designers and Project Managers.
· Ensuring products meet safety regulations.
Required Skills

Job Qualifications
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field.
· 3+ years of mechanical design experience in manufacturing or equipment build environments.

Compensation: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year

Vacuum Innovations was founded by President Dr. James Oliver in 2007. Dr. Oliver operated the company solely until 2017. At Vacuum Innovations, we design and manufacture a line of precision components and offer full-custom coating systems. We have been growing and expanding our operations and capabilities offered to better provide for our expanding customer base. In 2019 the company relocated to a 15,000 square foot facility in Dansville, NY. This new facility offers more office space and a large attached machine shop that allows for an open and organized layout for the manufacturing and operational side of the company. Our Dansville facility houses our mechanical and electrical engineers, IT, sales and marketing, and operations along with the machine shop.
